Buildbite case study; app design overview:
Buildbitte is a platform that connects construction professionals, including architects, contractors, and suppliers, with potential clients who are looking to start building projects. The app aims to streamline the process of finding and hiring the right professionals for construction projects, making it a one-stop solution for all construction-related needs.
Goal
My primary goal was to improve the usability and overall experience of the Buildbitte app. I wanted to streamline the onboarding and registration process, simplify project posting and professional search, enhance communication and collaboration features, and optimize the app's aesthetics.
Research Phase
To begin, I conducted user interviews to understand our pain points, challenges, and expectations. I identified common usage patterns and gathered feedback on existing features. I also analyzed other similar platforms to see what successful UX practices I could learn from and identified areas where Buildbitte could stand out. Additionally, I distributed user surveys to gather quantitative data on satisfaction and areas for improvement.
Design Phase
1. User Onboarding and Registration:
I implemented a progressive onboarding process that guided users, through profile setup and understanding their preferences. I simplified the registration form, reducing the number of mandatory fields while ensuring essential information was captured. Additionally, I provided social media login options to speed up the registration process.
2. Home Screen:
On the home screen, I designed a clean and intuitive layout, highlighting essential actions like "Post a Project" and "Find Professionals." The app considered users' location and preferences to personalize the content.
3. Posting a Project:
I streamlined the project posting process with a step-by-step wizard, ensuring that users provided all necessary details. I added predefined project templates for common construction types like residential and commercial projects, making it easier for users to get started. I also allowed users to upload images or sketches to visually communicate their project requirements.
4. Find Professionals:
For the "Find Professionals" section, I revamped the search interface to enable easy filtering based on location, expertise, reviews, and availability. Professional profiles displayed all the relevant information needed, such as experience, portfolio, and contact details. Additionally, I implemented a real-time chat feature to facilitate communication between clients and professionals.
5. Messaging and Collaboration:
To improve communication and collaboration, I designed an in-app messaging system. This way, clients and professionals could interact seamlessly within the platform. I also enabled file sharing, allowing professionals to share project proposals and other documents securely.
6. Navigation and Information Architecture:
I simplified the app's navigation to ensure that user could access essential features with minimal effort. I focused on creating clear information architecture using labels and categories.
